Breathing Gallery

Prowincjonalna Gallery, Słubice, Poland, 2000
wood, plastick foil, smoke generator

‘Breathing Gallery’ is a site - specific installation, created for the interior of the gallery. Translucent ‘mastabas’ cover the gallery windows, the machine pumps smoke inside them at certain time intervals. Electric fans distribute evenly suspended smoke inside every ‘mastaba’. When after some time the smoke descends, the smoke machine automatically starts delivering more smoke. Powered by the smoke machine’s hiss and the noise of fans, the cycle repeats itself indefinitely. The interior of the gallery turns into unspecified quasi laboratory space impossible to discover origins.
